Last year we launched our first product—the Roost Smart Battery—a Wi-Fi enabled retrofit battery that transforms your existing 9V smoke and CO alarms into smart, connected alarms. Last month we unveiled two models of Roost Smart Smoke Alarms, including an all-in-one Wi-Fi-connected smoke, fire, carbon monoxide and natural gas alarm, for replacing your old alarms or for use in new construction projects.
Today the Roost smart home revolution continues with the introduction of the Roost Smart Water and Freeze Detector! With our latest innovation, we continue our mission to create safer and smarter homes for all families at an affordable price. Like the Roost Smart Battery and Smart Smoke Alarms, the Smart Water and Freeze Detector is simple to install and has the potential to save homeowners from costly repair work.
As a homeowner or renter you may have experienced the all-too-common water leak or frozen pipe situation. The Smart Water and Freeze Detector will enable you to receive an early warning notification of a water leak situation or even when the basement temperature near your pipes reaches 36 degrees … well before they freeze or potentially burst!
So how does it work?
The Roost Smart Water and Freeze Detector has sensors that identify and alert homeowners to four major home emergencies via the Roost smartphone app:
- Water damage due to leaks from broken pipes, appliances, and basements leaks
- Frozen-pipe water damage
- Mold and mildew damage caused by high humidity conditions
- Inefficient energy use due to abnormal home indoor temperature, caused by problems with heating and cooling systems, power, or gaps in home seals or windows to the outside.
It’s ideal for primary homes—as well as second or vacation home properties where you’re away for the majority of the year. Unlike other home water leak detectors already on the market, the Roost Smart Water and Freeze Detector is a much more affordable solution that does not require costly specialty hubs. It’s very easy to install (seriously, less than five minutes without professional installation) and connects to the simple and intuitive Roost smartphone app. Plus, it’s battery-operated so it can be placed in locations where there’s no power outlet. The alarm is powered by AAA batteries, should last more than three years and are easily replaceable.
Our goal with this product is to help save U.S. consumers and insurance companies a part of the $8 billion dollars per year in potential water losses and claims paid. That’s quite a chunk of change!
